He was 78. Born in Austria, a son of the late Michael and Anna Smulligan, he resided in Mahanoy City before moving to Tamaqua in 1949. He was a retired coal miner, having last worked in the Mahanoy City area. He was a member of St. Mary's Greek Catholic Church, Mahanoy City.

Surviving are five sons, John and James, both of Tamaqua; Peter, with whom he resided; Joseph of Coaldale and Julius of Hosensack; five daughters, Mary, wife of I David 1 Leyfert of Schnecksville R. Charles Kresge, Ex-Store Owner Charles Henry Kresge of Lehighton R.3, owner of the former Stemlersville general store, died yesterday in his home. He was 89. Born in Stemlersville, a son of the late Paul and Mary (Stemler) Kresge, he operated the general store from the turn of the century to 1943. He also operated a farm in the Stemlersville area. The fire was discovered at 4:45 la a.m. and Coopersburg firemen had it under control within 10 minutes. Firemen remained on the scene until 6:30 a.m. Fire Chief LeRoy Knipe said he. believed the blaze had been smoldering in insulation under the roof since Monday afternoon when construction crews last worked on the structure along State Street.
