They are also very sensitive - as a first-time dog owner my first poodle is incredibly reactive and my second less so (sometimes a bit shy/can be startled). The first may have come from a not-so-reputable breeding program, that I didn’t know what I didn’t know at the time, but I’m now recognizing that even with what I thought was a great effort in socialization to all the things and helping try to have calm and confident dogs, it wasn’t enough in the end. - Because of the combination of their high grooming needs and high-energy personalities, it can be hard to get them used to grooming even starting as a puppy.
